-- Memorial Service:

Greetings!

I want to inform all of you that our beloved daughter Gretchen went home to be with the Lord at 9:00 PM, Friday evening June 12th. We can't express how we feel since this loss is so new but we are rejoicing in the fact that she is now in heaven with her beloved Jesus. Although being so handicapped, Gretchen gave the ultimate gift with a donation of her organs. Before she left this earth, those recipients were waiting for the gift of life that her organs provided. Please pray for these young people so that they would not only receive the organ but all the love of God that was within her.

Thank you for all your prayers. There is a huge void in our lives she was a part of every waking moment. We will miss her so much.

Gretchen was dearly loved by all of her family. Our sons Paul and Philip, along with our daughters Christine and Tracy were a wonderful witness of God's love throughout the entire process. People frequently commented on what a wonderful family we have.

Below is a summary of what our daughter-in-law Sarah wrote:

Sarah's Love Note: I am writing to all of you to ask for some prayers. As some of you know, Paul's sister Gretchen has been very ill for days. She is in a coma and on life support. On Monday, her shunt malfunctioned and she had severe swelling on the brain that caused extensive brain damage. And, now, Gretchen's time with us here is coming to an end. As many of you know, Gretchen is severely handicapped. She cannot see, walk without someone holding her up, and she talks with "kisses". However, Gretchen loved life more than most people blessed with those gifts we all take for granted. She laughed always, was happiest when the room was full of her loved once, would always tap her hand to the beat of music, she absolutely loved music!!! When you sat next to Gretchen, she would lean into you, rest her hand gratefully on your leg, and instantly you would be filled with a sense of Peace that only existed when you were sitting next to beautiful Gretchen. And now this has all taken place and Gretchen is now in the arms of Jesus. We are at peace and rejoicing. Thank you for your support, love and prayers.

I would like to go back a bit further and let you all know that it is because of Paul and his other sister Tracy, that Gretchen was blessed and we were blessed with more time together. On Easter, Paul and Tracy saved Gretchen's life as they administered CPR. It was the most amazing moment I have ever been a part of. During those 5 horrific minutes before the arrival of the ambulance, the power of Paul's love and Tracy's love brought us a miracle. They never once waivered, never once questioned their ability to help, never once doubted God's Grace. To watch two siblings work as the perfect team in the absolute most trying of circumstances was inspirational beyond words. The next time you are in their presence, remember there is a hero among you. After much prayer last night, Paul's parents suddenly had a thought enter their mind, that none of us had thought of. Could our beautiful Gretchen be a donor? The doctors have run tests and the answer is yes. Gretchen's heart, liver, pancreas, and kidneys will go to bring life to 4 more people!!!
